City of Lynchburg Business License Requirements Posted by lynchburgwebmaster (284)
All businesses located in the City of Lynchburg are required to obtain a license. The business license fee is based on gross receipts/purchases. The following schedule is utilized to determine the amount of the business license tax:

If gross receipts/purchases are greater than $100,000 the following schedule is utilized:

Retail merchant - 20 cents per $100 of gross receipts
Contractor - 16 cents per $100 of gross receipts
Business/personal service - 36 cents per $100 of gross receipts
Professional service - 58 cents per $100 of gross receipts
Wholesale merchant - $20 plus 28 cents per $100 of gross purchases

    Bedford County does not require a general County Business License. Depending on the type of business, however, a business may be required to apply for other specialty licenses or permits from Bedford County.

    All businesses located in Amherst County, except for retail and wholesale businesses, are required to obtain a Business license and pay a business license tax. The license tax is based on gross receipts based upon the following schedule:

    If gross receipts are under $50, 000, there is a $10.00 license tax. If the amount of gross receipts is over $50,000 see the following rates apply:
    · Contractors - $.13 per $100 of gross receipt
    · Services - $.31 per $100 of gross receipts
    · Professional - $.50 per $100 of gross receipts
    · Itinerant Merchants - $200.00 - 30 days or $500.00 annually
    · Peddlers - $50.00 annually
    · Door to Door - $20.00 annually

  • [164] Town of AltaVista Business License Requirements
    To operate a business in the Town of Altavista, a business must first must obtain a business license. Licenses may be obtained at Town Hall during regular business hours. Licenses expire at the end of each year. For existing businesses, renewal applications are mailed out in January and must be returned with the license fee no later than March 1.

    Businesses operating in the Town of Amherst, Amherst County, virginia are required to obtain a local business license. Information can be obtained from the Town of Amherst, Treasurer, P.O. Box 280, Amherst, VA 24521. A copy of the application is available in the downloads section of this website. The Application is due on/or before April 1st of each year. The minimum license fee is $30.00.

    Lynchburg Mayor Joan Foster will travel to Bramwell, West Virginia to honor noted Harlem Renaissance poet Anne Spencer. Spencer spent her early childhood in the West Virginia town before being sent to the Virginia Seminary and College where she graduated in 1899.

    Mayor Foster will join Bramwell Mayor Louise Stoker at "Gardens of May" a celebration of the childhood of Anne Spencer, famous Harlem Renaissance poet on Friday and Saturday, May 21 and 22.
